Appalling racist behavior from customs office at T2 Gate G, H South.I transferred from Vienna International Airport to Munich Airport on February 7th at approximately 14:00 as part of my itinerary to Incheon, South Korea. As I was carrying two goods that needed a customs stamp for export, I went to the customs office at T2 Gate G, H South. To my bemusement the two employees there--a young hefty blonde woman and an old robust man--treated with me the utmost rudeness; a rudeness that they did not exhibit towards another caucasian male customer, whom they greeted pleasantly. To elaborate:The woman did not bother to say hello and snapped at me to hand over my documents, passport, boarding pass, etc. She flipped through my passport and upon seeing that I had a student visa for Austria, threw the passport back at me and said that I was not eligible for a tax refund.I exited the office and called Global Blue to reconfirm the fact that as long as I am not an EU citizen I am eligible for a tax refund. Confused, I re-entered the customs office and asked for clarification from the lady who had served me before. This time she slammed a piece of paper in front of me saying that non-EU residents who have lived in Germany for more than three months are not eligible for a customs stamp. When I told her that I was just transferring in Munich and that I had lived outside of Germany, and thus was not convinced that the German regulation applied to me, her aged co-worker began to yell at me.While it may be true that I misunderstood German customs regulations, my confusion did not warrant such treatment from the customs employees. Throwing and slamming documents, as well as yelling, are traits of unprofessional behavior that I did not previously associate with Munich Airport. It is my hope that the employees at the customs office referred to in this text recognize that their racist actions are an embarrassment to not only Munich Airport but to Germany as well.
