Reiterstandbild Kurfürst Maximilian I.
An interesting thing to see at Wittelsbacherplatz is the equestrian monument to the Elector Maximilian I. This is the work of prominent sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1839.Here you find bronze figure of Maximilian I on horseback. He is in military attire with his right arm lifted and pointing to the right. It is a decent monument fairly typical of what you find with 19th century equestrian statues in Europe.Unfortunately during our visit in mid June, the area around the Elector Maximilian I monument at Wittelsbacherplatz was blocked off with covered gate sections as they prepared for some summer event or perhaps a market that was being set up. Fortunately, we were still able to view the Maximilian I monument well due to its height. Looking forward to unobstructed fews next time we pass by.

Reiterstandbild Kurfürst Maximilian I.
This monument stands in tribute to Maximilian I a member of the House of Wittelsbach and Duke of Bavaria. His legacy was one of administrative reform in rehabilitated the Bavarian state finances, the administration, the army and introduced mercantilist measures. The statue depicts Maximilian on horseback, with his left arm raised pointing the way forward for Bavaria. At the time of the visit, there's a market all around the square in which the statue is located., but you can still see most of the monument anyway.
