Pauli Hostel

I'm not sure how many characters I can use but I have many things to say.Don't go here.If you are a feminine presenting person or are queer I would not recommend this place.We picked this place because of the location and as it seemed very left wing.During our stay here, there were plenty of people in the hallways (and our room) who were not staying at the hostel. The building has a main door that locks, however the code to the door is written in bold numbers on a huge piece of paper at the reception and if you get in there once, because you were having a drink with the people at the reception, you could just save the code and come in and out no problem.There is no other security between the general public and the dorms.Further, when we came, they didn't have a designated room for us, but were more in the attitude of just pick one". I had a great time in this hostel! The staff, although a bit disorganised, were all very nice, sociable and helpful. They only have four toilets and four showers, which doesn’t seem like many, for the amount of people that can sleep there, but, to be honest, me and my friends didn’t have any problem with it - i never had to wait to go and do my stuff!They have a big kitchen, where you can serve yourself to a (free) coffee or tea, as well as cook your own food.The rooms weren’t the best out there, but they were cozy nonetheless.One aspect that may be a downside for some people (but honestly it wasn’t for me) is that the staff is quite “intrusive” in the rooms… but i guess people aren’t expecting much privacy sleeping in a dorm in a hostel!Also, they don’t have enough lockers for everyone; but, again, i didn’t have a problem with it.You can also use their washing machine and dryer, for clothes for 10€ (to wash and dry!), which is def a plus!The hostel is not in the centre, but you have a metro station 2 min away… so it shouldn’t be an issue!In sum, i enjoyed my stay here; but i think that if you are looking to rest and be at peace, this isn’t the place (even though i was treated very well!)

I have got the worse experience in Pauli hostel.The room was not clean. The beds are very old and hard to sleep on. The floor was dirty and never got cleaned during our stay. The worse is that the hostel was in a basement and there was no ventilation at all. So the main smell in the hostel was heavy and strong. The kitchen was dirty and there was basically no reception where we could sit and rest. Two chairs inside and that was all. At some point we were just looking forward to get out to get some air. The nights were the big nightmare. 12 persons sleeping in the same room without ventilation and with closed windows, no instructions or closets to leave shoes outside so I let you imagine the smell inside. Two shower for more than 60 travelers counting rooms and beds which non of them was clean.The price was neither cheap if you add the extra costs of bedsheets and towels compared to other much better hostels in the city.I really do not recommend it to any of you reading this comment. During many years of traveling and backpacking . This one was the worse.

Is was a terrible and bad experience in this hostel. The rooms were so dirty , not airy , unsecured with a bad smell , i could’t sleep during the night because of it.Can you imagine that i needed to breathe through my mouth just to not smell it .There was not enough showers and toilets

A great location, easy to find. It's right opposite the train station at konigstrasse. The bed was comfortable, was a bit disappointed with the extra charges for linen. Seems too much €5 for linen whereas other hostels provide for free. Just two showers and toilets for the whole hostel but I didn't have to wait too much so it was fine.Overall a good place to stay for a night or two and see hamburg. The connectivity to the city is great.

Had a great stay at Pauli Hostel. The staff are friendly and helpful and it is conveniently located for going out in Reeperbahn as well as getting into the city. Only drawback is limited space and privacy in the toilets and showers. The kitchen is well provisioned and there is free tea and coffee.

Es war ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt. Das Personal war besonders freundlich und hat mir sogar ein Lied angemacht. Zum Schluss hat uns der Inhaber noch persönlich verabschiedet.

Man bekommt was man für den Preis erwarten kann. Günstiger wird man kaum ein bezahltes Bett bekommen. Sauberkeit für einen Freitag Abend vollkommen ok. Liegt vermutlich mehr an dem Publikum als an dem Personal, wie es jeweils aussieht. Einchecken war sehr nett und unproblematisch. Personal sehr freundlich. Das 12 Bett Zimmer mit 6 Stockbetten auch völlig ok. Habe in teuren Hotels schon deutlich schlechtere Matratzen und Bettzeug gehabt. Die Gegend des Hostels ist auch nachts gut zu Fuß erreichbar, falls man sich das Geld für die Sbahn sparen möchte. Parken geht kostenlos in den Querstraßen von 20-7 Uhr, sonst max. 3. Std für 9€. Oder mit E Kennzeichen für umsonst.Wenn ich nur ein Bett bräuchte, würde ich für eine Nacht wieder kommen. Für länger wohl eher nicht. Habe nur 2 Duschen und je 2 WC entdeckt. Falls man nicht früh von jemandem der laut schnarcht geweckt wird, könnte es da auch mal voll werden.

If you are looking for a hostel thats gets the little things right. This is the place, comfy beds, clean sheets, an excess of chargers. Clean toilets and showers. A well equipped kitchen with a big sink with v cold water to fill up ur water bottle. Staff are really cool too. Very funny and hospitable. V good value for money.

Hostel hat 12h vor Anreise unser Zimmer gecancelt („Schaden“ im Zimmer - wir wurden gebeten, einen Tag später zu kommen), sodass wir zu zwölft kurzfristig nach einer anderen Unterkunft suchen mussten.Dies scheint kein Einzelfall zu sein (vgl. frühere Rezensionen) - absolutes Abraten von diesem Hostel!
