Beautiful fairytale church and water feature and a standout town feature.The water feature has childhood fairytale stories in graved into its centre pillar.

St. Catherine’s Church is a spectacle that fairy tales are made of. It’s like one of those picturesque sketches from a children’s story book: a quaint church, next to a medieval castle, that opens to a dreamlike fountain decked with lifelike figurines of a water-spewing dragon, a toad with a golden ball and a princess waiting for some magic to unravel. The church, an asymmetrical, two-nave, flat-roofed structure, is at a stone’s throw from the childhood home of the legendary Grimm Brothers. According to available literature, the present building dates back to years 1481-1511. Historical documents cite that the tower dates back to 1273; the shaky tower with belfry and his pointed helmet date from 1539. During restoration work in the 1970s, murals of the 15th and 16th centuries were also discovered. So, what we have in front of us is not just a place of worship, but also a watch tower that has quietly witnessed many fascinating tales of history unfold. The church is situated at the town centre of Steinau an der Straße in the immediate vicinity of the A66 and is therefore easy to reach even for culture enthusiasts from far away.
