Daniel Mannel is one of the kindest people I’ve gotten to know in Hamburg. His deep interest in crafting the upright bass and his passion in explaining each of the instrument he creates made me realize I made the right choice of renting my ‘first’ double bass through him. If you’re getting into learning the bass for the very first time, you’d agree there are several options out there in Hamburg that might overwhelm you. You could get ‘cheaper’ ones online through some credible websites but you won’t get that ‘personal’ experience of an artisan explaining his craft. The fact that Daniel operates his ‘workplace’ from his ‘home’ makes you realize you don’t have to look anywhere to get ideas and get your first bass. He has a huge selection of instruments to rent/buy depending on the make whether wood or plywood. Daniel has also ‘rented’ his basses to multiple Grammy award winner Christian McBride and the Elbphilharmonie. Do come here. You won’t regret it.
