I met Jan Richter in November 2019. He is one of the founders of Batemo GmbH in Karlsruhe.Batemo is still a rather young company. It was founded in March 2017 by Michael Schönleber and Jan Richter. They both received their doctorates from the KIT Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. They had been thinking about the idea for quite some time to take the step to founding a company after their doctoral period. It was clear that they wanted to deal with a topic that would enable them to influence the development of batteries. In addition, they wanted to be able to do without financial outside funding, so that they could keep full control at all times.In the meantime, they have succeeded and the company specializes in simulation software for lithium-ion batteries. For any lithium-ion cell, they create a digital twin, i.e. a model in the computer. The fact that they are thus credible for solvent customers is because they also prove the validity of these models in the entire operating range.The models are very complex and strongly non-linear coupled systems of algebraic and partial differential equations that represent the physical, chemical and thermodynamic processes. They are also suitable for simulating the behavior of the batteries over the lifetime of the cells. It is particularly challenging because the processes occur on different length and time scales.

Me and my graduate school were invited to Batemo for a guided tour of the laboratory. The welcome was very friendly, the tour was really interesting and the Batemo staff is extremely professional.Thank you very much for the super nice visit!!

I am a student at KIT. I am working as a student worker at Batemo GmbH. The working atmosphere is good and the cooperation as well. The work in the lab and office is very interesting and future-oriented.

Very professional start-up pursuing the comprehensive modelling of automotive batteries. The team is capable of experimentally investigating various different cells in their own high-tech lab and providing accurate models to the end user.

I study electrical engineering and had a great time doing an internship at Batemo. It's a fast growing startup and the people working there are experts in what they are doing. Also the coffee tastes very good :)

Currently I do my phd about the simulation of batteries and in this context visited Batemo with my graduate school last autumn. We were warmly received by Jan Richter and Michael Schönleber and Jan gave us a nice insight in the companys daily buisness - from experimental investigations on cells to the modeling and simulation. Thank's a lot for the fantastic and impressive visit!
