Alexander Potocki grave

Being originally from Uman (Ukraine) I was positively surprised to see this grave at the Old Catholic Cemetery in Dresden. Inscription: Alexander Potocki from Uman.Aleksander Potocki of the Pilawa coat of arms (1798-1868) - military, November Uprising member, emigrant, philanthropist.The eldest son of Graf Stanisław Szczęsny Potocki (1752-1805) who inherited from his father the historical estates of Uman and Arboretum Sofiyivka.He was a military man, but broke his career in the army and took part in the November Uprising. After the fall of the uprising, emigrated and his Uman’s goods were confiscated. However, he had a lot of funds in the West which allowed him to continue a good life.He was involved in charity work, and for the rest of his life was associated with the national cause.Was a friend with Zygmunt Krasiński and the poet Juliusz Slowacki.Died at the age of 70 in Dresden, where he was buried, leaving no children after him.
