SPRACHwerk

I'm a C1 in German and have taken German courses at several Berlin schools at this point - incl. at the VHS and Goethe Institut - and the time I've spent at SPRACHwerk is far and away the most productive learning approach I've found.Deborah is a native English and German speaker and her private lessons are fantastic, especially if you are at a more advanced level. Private lessons are more expensive than taking a group course (though SPRACHwerk rates are some of the least expensive I've found) but definitely think you learn more per hour spent with Deborah's lessons.In addition to the private lessons I'm also in the middle of the How German Works" group course which thus far has done a fantastic job of giving me all the information I need to fully understand German grammar - no small task that! I took lessons with Deborah Cohen at the SPRACHwerk language school while in Berlin in early 2016, in order to improve my speaking skills in German. I had already completed university-level studies in German, but knew my spoken ability to be lagging behind my other skills. Because I was going to be there for only 2 months, I wanted to 'intensify' my exposure to the spoken language.I was very satisfied with the quality of the instruction / discussion. Ms Cohen's mastery of the language is beyond doubt, and her experience as a language teacher is obvious. I recommend SPRACHwerk, and Ms Cohen in particular, without reservation.

I have a C1 level of German and was disappointed that maybe 50% of the lesson was conducted in English and the whole method relies on everything translated in English. Therefore I would avoid if you have more then an A2 level.Furthermore Deborah makes you sign a contract and will charge the full amount of a lesson even if lessons are not fully agreed upon. I have reported her to the Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband as I believe she operating on shakey legal ground.

Great teacher with a nice method.

I am thankful for the time I spent with Sprachwerk. Deborah Cohen is a GREAT language teacher, her learning method is unique, effective and special! Worth every cent!
